What The Heck Is A Noosphere Anyway?
When we decided to start the company, many people asked us about the name Noosphere. What does it mean?
Thanks to Wikipedia, now you know (slightly edited):
The Noosphere, according to the thought of philosopher and scientist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, denotes the “sphere of human thought”. The word is derived from the Greek νοῦς (nous “mind”) and σφαῖρα (sphaira “sphere”), in lexical analogy to “atmosphere” and “biosphere”.
We didn’t set out to pick a fancy name, though we guess it is.
The idea is that since our long-term goal is to produce research on most sectors and most areas of human endeavor, the company might one day be akin to a repository of human knowledge.
In any case, if you’re wondering–that’s where the name comes from.
